Reggy Gunn, 2006: works outside the studio

Reggy Gunn, Watsons Bay, Weatherboard House, 153 x 137cms

The oeuvre of Reggy Gunn can be divided into a variety of stylistic sets. Gunn makes new combinations  from already existing forms, styles and ideas. It is a search for new openings of pictorial problems.

In Australia during 2006, two new sets were added. One is inspired by the Australian weatherboard houses. The second is inspired by the big variety of typical Australian earth-colours which we also know from the indigenous aboriginal artworks. Gunn also used the aboriginal method to build up a work on a dark under-painting.

Gabrielle Van De Laak, Australian Landscape, 100 x 130 cm

Gabrielle van de Laak makes paintings and works on paper. The paintings she made in 2006 in Australia are mostly inspired by the Australian landscape, Australian architecture and above all the Australian light. In the works on paper birds, plants and everyday natural objects are the motives she starts from.

Most of the works are balanced compositions were the adventure lies in the search for the colours and the tension in the composition instead of

experiments or abstractions. It is not necessary to impress either with size or with pictorial process. Space and light are often palpable. This is the pure art of painting. Through the choice of motives, process and the richness of the colour this work not only pleases but is also strongly personal.
