LOST WORLDS:

Cockatoo Island, Everleigh, the Hungry Mile.

Jane Bennett

Exhibition opened by Dr. Jack Mundey AO

on Thursday 28th June, 7.30pm

This exhibition is about the end of an era - the transformation of once neglected industrial heritage in Sydney. It explores 3 unique areas that share both a fascinating past & an uncertain future; Cockatoo Island, an abandoned industrial site about to be redeveloped into a strange combination of entertainment precinct & maritime industry, Eveleigh Railway workshops and "the Hungry Mile" (East Darling Harbour). Cockatoo Island’s worn, peeling aged surfaces & derelict rusting cranes contrast with the intense colours & austere geometry reminiscent of Jeffrey Smart in the paintings of Eveleigh & the Hungry Mile.

Jane Bennett's masterful handling of these subjects will not come as a surprise to those familiar with her work.

Previews Wednesday 27th June from 6.30pm
