Artists from the Balgo community in far north Western Australia have created one of the most distinctive regional styles in Aboriginal Art. The Balgo Painters are considered by many to be the most innovative and daring painters working in Central Australia at present. The Balgo Painters' work is characterised by brilliant vibrant colours and strong iconic designs. The community is located at Wirrimanu (Balgo Hills) on the northern edge of the Tanami and Great Sandy Deserts and is one of the most isolated of Australia's desert settlements. We are fortunate in being able to offer a selection of new paintings representative of some of the finest work currently being produced by artists of the Balgo community. This exhibition includes paintings by senior artists Helicopter Tjungurrayi, Susie Bootja Bootja Napaltjarri, Michael Mutji Tjangala, Margaret Yinjuru Bumblebee, Lucy Loomoo, Bob Dingle Tjanangka, Ningie Nangala and younger emerging artists. Balgo paintings are sought after by collectors and institutions and a number of artists represented in this exhibition are included in International Public collections. The exhibition continues until Sunday 7 October 2001.
