OPENING NIGHT WEDNESDAY 28th MARCH 6-8pm
Freedom from limitations, the poetics of movement, these are some of the themes reflected on by the following seven artists:
Susan Fowler: Memorials to urban ambivalence, contemplating on the criteria for assessing value, success, beauty, meaning.
Gemma Nardone: Utilising digital media, the work is concerned with themes of mortality, fragility and renewal. Medical diagrams of the human body are juxtaposed with objects found in nature and reference themes in still life art of the 16th century.
Chandra Lamont: movement exploring the rhythmic phrases of pivoting and falling. Empty spaces creating room to move.
Astrid Spielman: In December 2000, I paddled a kayak around a semi-submerged construction workers hut in a flooded building site on Parramatta Road. The performance was called Thinking of Venice.
James Blackwell: 'Bruised' is a photographic work about textures and surfaces of the organic form in varying states of decay. Cropped, enlarged and digitally manipulated, the work becomes a grid of ambiguous shapes and unknown forms.
Paola Talbert: Relating to the element of water and the representation of the female body, these sensual permutations emerge from the liquid topaz.
Felicity Jenkins: 'Infinite' explores the relationship between detail and expanse within our organic and artificial surrounds.
