William was invited to live in his wife's country, where the Papunya community is located, in the mid 70s. He moved here from his own country, the Pit Land and became one of the great painters of the Papunya Community.
Teaching himself after watching the other artists at work, he began to paint for Papunya Tula (an aboriginal corporation) in the early 80s. His work travelled through America in the mid 80s as a part of a group show called Dreaming.
He has become a consistently recognisable painter in his style and colour. Eight Waterhole Dreaming, hanging at this exhibition with Walkabout Productions was an entry in the Telstra Awards.
Married to Violet Nakamarra, sister of Michel Nelson Tjakamarra, he is a prolific artist, with international presence. He paints Dingo, Emu, Woman, Green Bean and other Dreaming stories from the Pitjantjatjara country.
